WTM offers superior dedicated hosting with a variety of plans on several different platforms. We can work with you to upgrade your systems as your needs grow. In addition to single server plans, WTM can work with you to create clustering solutions, mirrored servers, and application servers.
What's the difference between Shared and Dedicated hosting?
In a shared environment, multiple clients share a single server. A dedicated environment hosts only one client per server.
A dedicated server provides you with a larger amount of uptime, greater server access, the ability to use custom applications, greater security, greater bandwidth, and superior technical support. Typically, clients seeking web hosting solutions have questions and concerns regarding the following topics:
- Server and site uptime and availability
- Server access
- Custom application installations and support
- Security
- Bandwidth
- Technical support
The solution of a dedicated server will increase the speed of your sites, allow customization of the operating system and give you root access to the server for custom applications and management of the whole server. WTM will make sure it is running, is backed up daily and is fast to access.
All WTM dedicated servers are Pentium III 1130Mhz/512KB CPU's, with Raid 5, ROMB Raid controller and 512 Mb memory. Specifications are outlined in detail for the following solutions:
Dedicated server standards
When choosing a server to deliver your mission critical information or deliver real-time application solutions for your customers, you need to rely on the hardware that performs these tasks. For this reason WTM uses custom built servers whilst our competitors use clone servers that are lower in monthly subscription but under perform and run the risk of damaging the continuity of service for the customer.
Security
WTM’s approach to Internet security is to provide a multi-layer defence strategy to prevent illegal accessing of resources on the network. This consists of clustered Cisco routers running Firewall software and 56bit IPSec encryption as the primary physical interface to the Internet. Behind this, clustered 525 Cisco PIX firewalls protect all WTM and customer internal networks from both illegal access from the Internet and prevent different customers on internal networks from accessing each other. The firewall directs all Internet traffic to the high-end Layer3 switch that ensures the customers are directed to the appropriate VLAN and are unable to view or ping other services in the internal systems.
In addition to the front end, WTM has Cisco IDS located throughout the network to trap, capture source information and report on illegal network activity.
Reporting on the server performance
The WTM standard for network monitoring and reporting is the IPMonitor suite of products. Agents are installed on all servers and routers to allow WTM to manage each client’s network from a central console in the data centre. This is manned 24 x 7 hours by operations staff who can respond promptly to any alerts and if necessary escalate them to the appropriate technical resource.
IPMonitor provides a variety of agents for monitoring different operating systems, hardware and software products (including SQL server) and will be utilised to provide regular detailed reports on the performance of the network and its components as well as the day to day management functions.
On the Internet side, WTM will perform a wide range of functions including monitoring, reporting, bandwidth management and traffic prioritisation. This provides dedicated server customers with detailed information on the utilisation of their allocated bandwidth as well as historical trend analysis and capacity planning information to enable them to effectively predict future requirements.
These reporting requirements are fulfilled with the use of HP OpenView and Cisco PIX firewall analyser that will be configured to provide reporting based on the requirements of the customer. These can range from CPU utilisation to fan speeds, operating systems and end customer experience performance. Once configured these will be supplied with monthly report based invoicing.
